What are QR Codes?

A circular or square barcode used to communicate links, digital business cards, WiFi passwords and more. Your phone’s camera reads the pixels to access the information. QR stands for Quick Response.

How Do I Scan Them?

You no longer need a special app to scan QR codes! Anyone can scan a QR code using just the camera on their smartphone. Aim your camera at the code and tap the notification banner when it appears. If you are farther away from the code, you may need to
zoom in a bit to focus on the code.

Are They Safe?

When using QR codes, it’s a good practice to exercise common sense, and think about your personal security and the context where the QR code is placed.

• Don’t trust it? Don’t scan it. Is there another, more trustworthy way you could access the information?
• Don’t download a QR code scanner app. The vast majority of smartphones have scanners
built-into their cameras.
• Don’t download an app via a QR code; instead use your phone’s app store.
