Scammers are getting smarter—and locals are paying the price. From fake mortgage letters to scam phone calls, the latest scams are draining wallets and spreading fast. Here’s what’s happening and how to stay safe.

Mail Spam

We’ve been made aware of fraudulent mailings falsely claiming to be from First New York’s Lending Department, referencing members’ property details. These letters are not legitimate and are a scam.  If you encounter these communications, please report them to our Contact Center at (518) 393-1326, option 2.

These operations scout out neighborhoods, pull mortgage records from the county clerk, and then flood homeowners with manipulative mailers—designed to look enticing but ultimately aimed at luring a few unsuspecting recipients into their scheme.

518-393-1000 Scam Call

Several reports have surfaced of scammers impersonating First New York’s phone number in an attempt to deceive our members into gaining personal information. The bad actors inquire about a laptop purchase.

First New York’s number is 518-393-1326. Any other number you see is fraudulent. If you receive these types of calls, block the number immediately and report it to our Contact Center at (518) 393-1326, option 2.

You are always encouraged to reach out to First New York directly to confirm information.
